Sedation & Assistance
Post-Operative Instructions
If you had IV sedation, a responsible adult must stay with you for 4–6 hours. Do not drive the day of surgery. Move slowly to avoid falls.
Post Operative Instructions
Bleeding
Mild bleeding or oozing is normal for 2–4 days. Bite on damp gauze (change every 20 minutes) until bleeding slows. Remove gauze before eating, drinking, or sleeping.
Medications
Take Tylenol (500mg) + Advil (600mg) every 6 hours for 2–3 days.For breakthrough pain, use the prescribed narcotic (stop Tylenol if you do).Narcotics may cause drowsiness—do not drive or operate machinery.Take antibiotics as prescribed until finished.
Swelling & Bruising
Apply ice packs (30 min on, 10 min off) the first day. Switch to warm compresses on day 2. Swelling peaks 48–72 hours, then improves. Keep your head elevated when resting.
Recommended Pain Control Strategy
Diet
Day 1: Cool, soft food (yogurt, pudding, ice cream)
Day 2: Soft warm food (eggs, mashed potatoes)
Day 3: Advance as tolerated. Avoid hot foods day of surgery
Oral Care
No Spitting or vigorous rinsing for 24 hours.
Start warm saltwater rinses the day after surgery (4 to 5 times / day for 1 week)
Brush teeth gently, avoiding surgical sites
Other Instructions
Do Not smoke for at least 2 weeks- It delays healing.
A mild fever is common; Call Us if over 101 F
Limited Jaw Movement and sore joints are normal and improve with timw
Possible Issues
Dry Socket: Severe Pain 3 - 5 days after surgery - Call our Office
Drug Reactions: Stop medication and call if you have rash, nausea or other adverse effects
Infection: Persistent swelling or pain may require evaluation
